of 2020?:coordinate our efforts. As all our disease suppression strategies require
widespread public buy-in and cooperation, effective communication with
New Brighton’s residents is crucial. This is an area where I think the
Council will be crucial in the next eight months and I would work
towards being an effective contributor.
The Council
enjoys great
working
relationships with
one another. How
will you ensure
you work to
continue those
good working
relationships with
other
councilmembers?:
I am confident that I will be able to work cordially and productively with
other council members if appointed. I think there are two keys to building
good working relationships. First, is the crucial requirement to treat
others like one would like to be treated. I will strive to be polite,
respectful, and generous in my evaluation of others motives and
intentions. Second, is to remember that diverse groups of people with
differing views and perspectives come to better decisions than monolithic
groups. I personally enjoy working with groups where there is diversity
of views, because I believe it brings out the best in all of us. Therefore, I
will always seek to remember that disagreements and disputes between
myself and others on the Council are not bad but are part of the process
of coming to better collective decisions. I will attempt to express my
views in the same light.
What skills and
interests do you
have that would
make you an
effective
councilmember?:
I am a trained and licensed attorney and have relevant legal knowledge
and strong analytical skills. In my current job I successfully hold multiple
hearings every day. While an administrative hearing is different from a
council meeting, I believe the skills I have developed will carry over to
the council meeting format. In my current job, I must arrive at the facts of
any case by examining documentary evidence and asking questions of
those involved. I think this will help me be an effective consumer of the
written materials that are in every council meeting packet and gathering
the needed information from others to discharge the duties of the city
council. My job also requires me to listen to the differing views of the
employer and employee and make decisions based on the data and the
law. I imagine the Council will often have to make decisions when
multiple groups of people are presenting different views and information.
I have effectively worked at trying to establish and maintain a balanced
budget on the St. John the Baptist Finance Commission. I am
comfortable working with numbers and making difficult trade-offs and
decisions in that process.
Please confirm
you are legally
eligible to hold
public office in
New Brighton by
answering the
following
questions::
Are you a U.S.
Citizen?:Yes
Are you 21 years
of age or older?:Yes
Are you a
