My community leadership <br />engagement has included: Member of the New Brighton’s Economic <br />Development Commission. Vice-president of the Mounds View Schools <br />Education Foundation, raising funds for All Day K and the district’s <br />Equity Promise and Early College. Bel Air’s PTA president and a <br />volunteer at school functions. Volunteered at phone bank and door- <br />knocks to defeat both the Voter ID and Marriage amendments in 2012. <br />Engaged within the Latino community to engage people in the electoral <br />process, the importance of getting out to vote, and why their voice <br />matters. Community advocate for racial, gender, and economic equality <br />through listening sessions, facilitation, and participation in community <br />workshops and meetings. <br />Why are you <br />interested in <br />serving on the <br />City Council?: <br />I am interested in serving on the City Council because there are issues <br />that affect my family and my community. I am looking to be an advocate <br />for our daughters, to ensure they will be treated and paid equally as to <br />their male counterparts, for our sons, to ensure they are not singled out <br />because of the color of their skin, for our parents to ensure they have <br />affordable and accessible healthcare as they age. <br />What are your <br />top 3-5 policy <br />priorities for the <br />City?: <br />I am interested in advocating for a clean environment, economic <br />sustainability, and public safety that is accessible and equitable for all <br />residents. <br />What are your <br />goals as a <br />Councilmember <br />for the remainder <br />of 2020?: <br />I bring three core principles; inclusion, collaboration and action. I believe <br />that our diversity across, race, ability, gender, age, and economic status… <br />I believe, that diversity CAN be our greatest strength, but to achieve this, <br />it will take meaningful collaboration across our differences to make this <br />possible. By learning from each other’s perspectives and working <br />together, we will take action and create a stronger and more unified <br />community.
