the fil.,lr'that IWfkR for }'OU <br />PURPOSE- <br />NEW BRIGHTON COMMISSION MEMBER <br />EXPECTATIONS <br />This document establishes expectations and associated remedies that City of New Brighton <br />commission members agree to abide by in carrying out their duties as advisory officials. The <br />New Brighton Commission Member Expectations document does not supersede any existing or <br />future statutory or constitutional rights, but simply outlines appropriate commission expectations, <br />behavior and interactions with each other, city staff, citizens and all other groups encountered as <br />a result of city business so as to efficiently and effectively develop and carry out the mission, <br />vision, goals and established policies of the city. Whenever referenced herein, the terms <br />"commission member(s)" shall refer to all commission members appointed by the New Brighton <br />City Council. <br />Commission members are appointed by the City Council. The City Council sets the rules, <br />expectations, roles, and responsibilities for each of the five advisory commissions that serve the <br />City of New Brighton. The City Manager and staff liaison are responsible for assisting the City <br />Council by providing information (as requested) to the advisory commissions to assist them with <br />making public policy recommendations to the City Council, but are not responsible for managing <br />or setting the rules, expectations, roles, and/or responsibilities for the various commissions. <br />COMMISSIONS- <br />The CityofNew Brighton has five citizen Commissions that play an important role inreviewing <br />and making recommendations to the City Council on matters of public policy.Commission <br />members are appointed by the City Council and serve on avolunteer basis. Terms are for three <br />years or as assigned by the City Council. Below is a brief description of the NewBrighton <br />advisorycommissions: <br />•Planning Commission-This citizen commission advises the Council on all city land use <br />planning matters. Duties include the development and maintenance of the New Brighton <br />Comprehensive Plan, carrying out procedures directed by the City Council and making <br />recommendations to the Council. <br />•Economic Development Commission (EDC)- This Commission advises the Council on <br />matters concerning industrial and commercial development for the city. <br />•Parks, Recreation, Environmental Commission (PREC)- This Commission advises <br />the CityCouncil ontheproper useofand care forparks and thenatural environment and <br />advises onpolicies coveringrecreational activities ofthe city. Issues relating to theNew <br />Brighton Community Center also come under the duties of this commission. <br />•Public Safety Commission- This citizen commission advises the Council on matters <br />related to the goals, policies and operations ofpublic safety functions andhuman rights <br />issues and fulfills the responsibilities and obligations of a Police CivilService <br />Commission, pursuant to the terms and provisions of MN Laws 1929, Ch. 299(MN
