July 28, 2020 Page 5 of 6 <br /> <br />Commission Liaison Reports, Announcements and Updates <br /> <br />Devin Massopust <br />City Manager Massopust updated the Council on the CARES Act funding and noted additional <br />information would be brought to the Council in August. He explained Ramsey County had <br />several different types of assistance programs for residents that have had their income impacted <br />due to COVID-19. He encouraged residents facing this concern to contact Ramsey County’s <br />website for further information. He reported the Council would be holding its first 2021 <br />budget meeting on Tuesday, August 4th at the New Brighton Community Center at 6:00 p.m. <br />He explained candidate filing was now open for the Mayor and City Council seats and would <br />close on August 11th at 5:00 p.m. <br /> <br />Paul Jacobsen <br />Councilmember Jacobsen reported the Planning Commission met on Tuesday, July 21st. He <br />noted this group discussed Items 2 and 3 under Council Business. He thanked the Planning <br />Commission for their great discussion on these items. He commented he was sad to report <br />National Night Out would not be held in August this year, nor would Stockyard Days. He <br />thanked Director Fink for planning and having the City host a chalk event in the community. <br />He indicated he was proud of how resilient the community was to keep moving forward <br />through the COVID-19 pandemic. He encouraged residents to stay safe and wear masks. <br /> <br />Nasreen Fynewever <br />Councilmember Fynewever thanked the Parks and Recreation Department for hosting the <br />recent chalk art event. She stated she appreciated all of the artists that participated in this great <br />event. She commented the Farmer’s Market continues to be a strong activity in the <br />community. She invited members of the community to consider attending the Farmer’s Market <br />each week. She encouraged all residents in New Brighton to offer respect, grace and space as <br />the community moves through and plans for the upcoming school year. She encouraged black <br />and indigenous people of color to consider being on the ballot this fall. <br /> <br />Graeme Allen <br />Councilmember Allen reported CPY would be hosting a Golf Ball Drop fundraiser on Sunday, <br />August 2nd at 3:00 p.m. He stated this would be a great chance for residents to give back to the <br />community. He indicated the chalk festival held at Veteran’s Park was a tremendous <br />community event and he thanked staff for planning this event. He encouraged residents to be <br />safe and to wear masks when indoors. <br /> <br />Mayor Johnson <br />Mayor Johnson reported the Farmer’s Market takes place every Wednesday at the New <br />Brighton Community Center. She noted over 700 people attended last week. She invited all <br />residents to consider attending this week. She stated the Farmer’s Market staff was seeking <br />volunteers at this time and those interested could stop by the information table. She discussed <br />the precinct changes that would occur for the Primary and General Election. She indicated the <br />City would be communicating this information to the public over the coming weeks. She <br />explained a group of fraternal organizations had been formed called the Suburban Ramsey <br />Emergency Coalition. She stated the goal of the coalition was to raise $150,000 to help with <br />rental, housing and food insecurity that has occurred due to COVID-19. She indicated a virtual <br />walk was being planned that would cost $20 and all funds would go directly to help those in <br />need. She commented this organization has already raised $62,000 to help those in need in the <br />northern suburbs.
