REQUEST FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION

ITEM DESCRIPTION: Authorize The Replacement of Public Safety Center Radio System
DEPARTMENT HEAD’S APPROVAL: Anthony S. Paetznick, Director of Public Safety
CITY MANAGER’S APPROVAL:
No comments to supplement this report ___ Comments attached ___

Recommendation: Authorize the replacement of the Public Safety Center Radio system from
Ancom Communications.

Legislative History: None

Financial Impact: The Non-Fleet Capital Replacement Fund has $100,000 budgeted for this
expense. The quoted pricing from the State of Minnesota Bid is $70,430.20.

Explanation: The current ARMER 800mhz Radio system was installed in the Public Safety
Center when it was constructed in 2002. The radio system allows Public Safety staff to receive
emergency calls for service and communicate with dispatch. The system was scheduled for
replacement in 2019 but to ensure we are fiscally conservative it was deferred to this year. In August,
the radio system stopped working. In the interim staff have been using portable radios which is a
non-sustainable solution. Staff contacted Ancom Communications a State of Minnesota Authorized
vendor and received the attached quote. The quoted pricing for the radio system components is
based upon the State of Minnesota Contracted pricing schedule. The purchase will be consistent with
the Non-Fleet Capital Replacement plan schedule and under budget.

________________________
Trevor Hamdorf
Deputy Director of Public Safety

Attachments: Quotation
Report Number: 2
Agenda Section: Consent
Report Date: 09/15/2020
Council Meeting Date: 09/22/2020
