Consider approval and adoption of the Comprehensive Park System Plan and <br />direct staff to forward to the Metropolitan Council for approval and inclusion in <br />the 2040 Comprehensive Plan. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilmember Dunsworth, seconded by Councilmember Jacobsen to adopt the <br />Comprehensive Park System Plan and direct staff to forward to the Metropolitan <br />Council for approval and inclusion in the 2040 Comprehensive Plan . <br /> <br />City Manager Massopust discussed the work that went into the Comprehensive Park System Plan. He <br />indicated Parks and Recreation Director Fink would be presenting this item to the Council. <br />Parks and Recreation Director Fink stated every ten years, the City of New Brighton is obligated <br />under Minnesota Statutes 473.864, subdivision 2 to review and update its comprehensive plan <br />to determine if amendments are necessary to ensure continued conformity with metropolitan <br />system plans. The current plan was adopted by New Brighton in July of 2019. One of the <br />directives of the comprehensive plan was the creation of a new Comprehensive Parks System <br />Plan. The last time there was a park system plan done for the City was in 2006. The new Parks <br />Plan outlines the City’s vision for investments in our Community Center and Parks, and will <br />become part of the 2040 Comprehensive Plan once adopted. <br />Candace Amberg, WSB, discussed the planning process that was followed for the <br />Comprehensive Parks System Plan over the past two years. She stated she appreciated the <br />amount of community engagement and feedback the City received from the public. She <br />reported this plan was available on the City’s website and this plan has had over 285 views. <br />She reviewed the basic information included within the plan and described how it would be <br />Consent Agenda 1.
