September 22, 2020 Page 6 of 7 <br />Emily Dunsworth <br />Councilmember Dunsworth reported she attended the Cable Commission meeting last <br />Thursday and explained CTV has changed their name to Nine North. She explained Nine <br />North would be focusing their efforts on rebranding over the next three to six months. She <br />stated Nine North amended their bylaws to allow for other cities to use their services. She <br />commented PREC did not meet in September but would be meeting next on Wednesday, <br />October 7th. <br /> <br />Graeme Allen <br />Councilmember Allen reported the Public Safety Commission met on Monday, September 14th <br />where the group discussed traffic stop data and implicit bias. He explained the Public Safety <br />Commission would meet next on Monday, October 12th where use of force and de-escalation <br />training would be discussed. He encouraged the public to participate virtually in National <br />Night Out on Tuesday, October 6th. He sent his condolences to the family who lost a member <br />of the family in Long Lake. He thanked all who participated in the cleanup day, which was <br />held on Saturday, September 19th. <br /> <br />Paul Jacobsen <br />Councilmember Jacobsen reported the Planning Commission met on Tuesday, September 15th. <br />He thanked all of the Commission members for volunteering to make the community a better <br />place and for being willing to engage in the public. He stated he appreciated all of the people <br />who assisted with the recent cleanup day and indicated this was a valuable event for New <br />Brighton residents. He explained the League of Minnesota Voters held a mayoral candidate <br />forum on Monday, September 21st. He discussed how impact has impacted people’s daily lives <br />and how it would impact the upcoming election. He encouraged all residents to put in for their <br />absentee ballots or to vote in person on Tuesday, November 3rd. <br /> <br />Mayor Johnson <br />Mayor Johnson sent her condolences to the family who lost a loved one in Long Lake. She <br />thanked the New Brighton Public Safety Department, the Roseville Fire Department, the <br />Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office, the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office and the Washington <br />County Sheriff’s Office for all of their assistance with the search and rescue efforts. She sent <br />her condolences to the Fridley Fire Department after the recent loss of Deputy Director and <br />Fire Chief Mike Spencer. She reported Fire Chief Spencer’s memorial services were held in <br />New Brighton at St. John’s Church this morning. <br /> <br />Mayor Johnson explained the North Metro Mayors met recently and explained this group <br />discussed COVID-19 and how cities were being financially impacted. She noted the Mayor’s <br />discussed how residents were being impacted by COVID-19 and the number of residents that <br />were facing housing concerns. She indicated an East Metro Mayors association was being <br />formed and she was in talks with Ryan Kelly. She commented on the second stimulus package <br />that was being considered by the senate. <br /> <br />Mayor Johnson reported early voting has started in the City of New Brighton at the <br />Community Center from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day. She noted this was being run by <br />Ramsey County. She indicated this voting was open to all residents of Ramsey County. She <br />commented she has heard good things about how well the early voting facility was being run. <br /> <br />Mayor Johnson discussed how important it was for all residents to exercise their right to vote. <br />She commented on the recent passing of Ruth Bader Ginsburg and noted she would be the first <br />women to lie in state in the United States Capital. She explained women were celebrating 100 <br />years of the right to vote this year.
