CITY OF NEW BRIGHTON Proclamation WHEREAS Valerie Johnson was elected Mayor of New Brighton in 2015 and began serving in January of 2016; and, WHEREAS Valerie’s leadership, insight, involvement, and love for New Brighton have positively benefitted the community; and, WHEREAS Valerie has been instrumental in the approval and adoption of many programs and improvements to New Brighton, including, the final approval, construction, and expansion of Water Treatment Plant I which provides the community safe and reliable drinking water; and, WHEREAS Moving municipal elections to even years to encourage higher voter turnout and participation was important to Valerie and was completed under her leadership as Mayor; and, WHEREAS Valerie was involved in the approval of many construction and expansion projects during her time as Mayor including improvements to the Old Highway 8 corridor, most notably the Midtown Village development. She also was instrumental in the approval and construction of TUV/SUD in the New Brighton Exchange and multiple street and pedestrian improvement projects; and, WHEREAS New Brighton’s parks and facilities have been improved under Valerie including improvements to Hansen Park, the construction of Lion’s Park, a new mural at the New Brighton Community Center, and a new Eagle’s Nest playground; and, WHEREAS the formation of the Inclusive Community Task Force that will continue to help guide the community’s work on inclusivity was formed under Valerie’s recommendation and leadership; and, WHEREAS Valerie served as Mayor during the COVID-19 pandemic, providing strong leadership for the community and working to ensure that City was able provide relief to residents and businesses alike; and, WHEREAS Valerie has worked with other members of governmental jurisdictions to benefit New Brighton including the North Metro Mayor’s Association, the League of MN Cities, the National League of Cities, Ramsey County, and more; and, WHEREAS Valerie’s time as Mayor of New Brighton will have a long-lasting impact on the City of New Brighton, NOW, THEREFORE, I, PAUL JACOBSEN, Mayor Pro-tem of the City of New Brighton, Minnesota, in recognition of Valerie Johnson’s service and dedication to the citizens of New Brighton do hereby offer our heartfelt thanks and best wishes to Valerie Johnson IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the City of New Brighton, Minnesota to be affixed this 8th day of December 2020. _________________________________________________ PAUL JACOBSEN – MAYOR PRO TEM
