November 24, 2020 Page 5 of 6 <br />City Manager Massopust reported indicated Interim Finance Director Smith would be presenting this item to <br />the Council. <br />Interim Finance Director Smith stated the City received $1,741,791 in CARES funding, which earned <br />$89.08 in interest during the covered period, leaving the City with $1,741,880.08 to spend on <br />eligible expenses. City staff have been submitting cumulative spending reports to the <br />Minnesota Management and Budget (MMB) office on a monthly basis. The allocation <br />summary was reviewed with the Council in further detail and staff recommended approval of <br />the final CARES funding uses. <br />Councilmember Jacobsen asked how many businesses applied for assistance through the City’s <br />grant program. Interim Finance Director Smith discussed the number of businesses that applied for grants <br />noting several applications were incomplete and therefore were not awarded grants. City Manager <br />Massopust explained the City had strict criteria in place for its grant program with the goal of having the City <br />supplement the County’s program. <br />Councilmember Jacobsen questioned if staff was aware of how much assistance New Brighton businesses <br />received from Ramsey County. City Manager Massopust explained he was not certain, but indicated he <br />would gather this information and pass it along to the Council. <br /> <br />A roll call vote was taken. <br /> <br />5 Ayes, 0 Nays-Motion Carried <br /> <br />Commission Liaison Reports, Announcements and Updates <br /> <br />Devin Massopust <br />City Manager Massopust reported the governor’s most recent order has altered some <br />operations for the City of New Brighton. He explained City Hall remains closed, but the <br />license bureau remains open via appointment. He stated the Community Center would remain <br />closed until further notice, but the Mission Possible day camp would continue. He indicated <br />all public safety functions were in place, along with public works staff. <br /> <br />Graeme Allen <br />Councilmember Allen wished everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. <br /> <br />Emily Dunsworth <br />Councilmember Dunsworth reported the State of Minnesota had a new app called COVID <br />Aware. <br /> <br />Nasreen Fynewever <br />Councilmember Fynewever encouraged residents to reach out to the City or the school district <br />if they were facing food instability issues for assistance and resources. <br /> <br />Paul Jacobsen <br />Councilmember Jacobsen reported the Planning Commission met last Tuesday and discussed <br />Council Business Items 1 and 2. He thanked the Planning Commission for their valuable <br />discussion of both items. He encouraged all residents to be safe during the Thanksgiving <br />holiday. <br /> <br />Mayor Johnson <br />Mayor Johnson reported the North Metro Mayors met last week and discussed COVID issues. <br />She explained the Minnesota League of Cities held a meeting as well and discussed legislative <br />issues for 2021. She thanked all citizens of New Brighton for taking the time to fill out their <br />2020 census information.
