NE <br />BRIGHTON <br />building tomorrow today <br />REQUEST FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION <br />Report Number: 2 <br />Report Date: 2/17/2021 <br />Council Meeting Date: 2/23/2021 <br />ITEM DESCRIPTION: Check-in on City of New Brighton Inclusivity Work <br />DEPARTMENT HEAD'S APPROVAL: <br />CITY MANAGER'S APPROVAL: <br />No comments to supplement this report Comments attached <br />Recommendation: Discuss and provide input on the City of New Brighton's current plans as it relates to <br />inclusivity initiatives <br />Legislative History: <br />1/12/21— Work Session devoted to discussing Council's desire for inclusivity work to be accomplished in 2021 <br />and on. <br />2/9/21— Work Session discussion that centered on future topics for work sessions that are reflective of Council's <br />goals. During this discussion it was noted that there is a desire for check -ins on the work. It was confirmed in that <br />meeting that at the 2/23 work session we would have a check-in and discuss further action items moving forward. <br />Explanation: <br />The City of New Brighton has been working in 2021 on inclusivity initiatives that stem from Council goals as well <br />as previous work done through the Inclusivity Community Task Force. The work for 2021 can be broken down <br />generally into three different areas and tasks. These include: <br />• Consultant work and resulting creation of Inclusivity Action Plan <br />• Commission charge identification, creation, and recruitment <br />• Hiring of Inclusivity Coordinator <br />The purpose of this work session item is to provide an update and goals on these initiatives to date; ensure <br />Council is comfortable with the work and approach thus far and future plans; solicit any Council feedback on <br />inclusivity plans. <br />Devin Mass Oust <br />City Manager <br />
