Passed away unexpectedly on March 20, <br />2015 surrounded by his family. Al was one of eight children raised on a farm in Buckman, MN. He married <br />Doris on 9/28/1963. They settled in New Brighton and raised their three children there. Al proudly served the <br />community as volunteer Fireman and Fire Chief for 20 years and was appointed State Director of the <br />Minnesota Fire Chiefs Association. He worked as a Public Works employee and Superintendent for over 30 <br />years. Al was an active member of St. John's Church and served as cemetery sexton from 1969 until the <br />present. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family: camping, fishing, hunting, and working in his <br />yard. He will be fondly remembered as a faithful, hardworking and easy-going man who devotedly served his <br />family, church and community. Survived by beloved wife, Doris; children, Jeff (Karen), Stacy (Dan) Weaver <br />and Kelly (Chris) Kohnen; grandchildren, Andrew, Kyle, Jacob, Emily, Brooke and Derek; brother David; <br />sisters, Pat and Joan; and other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Cecelia; <br />brothers, Arnie, Jim, John and Don; grandson, Matthew. Officer Farmer was awarded a baseball cap, "hat trick" pin, and letter <br />recognizing his three DWI arrests during one patrol shift last weekend. <br />On March 24th at the regular City Council Meeting Officer/Firefighter Tom Nerison, <br />Officer Tyler Wakasugi, Paramedic Matthew Patterson, and EMT Kieran Gallagher <br />received Life Saving Awards. They assisted in saving the life of 2 1/2 year old Kennedy <br />Weber who had gone into full cardiac arrest on December 10th, 2014. <br />17 <br />
