VIII. HOMELAND SECURITY AND EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT <br />This section will review ongoing activities for homeland security and emergency <br />management. This includes the activities of the New Brighton Community Emergency <br />Response Teams (CERT). <br />IX. TRAINING <br />This section will review the training activities of our Public Safety personnel for the <br />month. <br />All licensed peace officers and public safety officers participated in emergency medical <br />services (EMS) continuing education and annual Use of Force refresher, as mandated by <br />the MN POST Board, on Tuesday and Thursday, October 8 and 10. Global Academy <br />hosted the morning EMS session for officers to become familiar with the remodeled <br />school and engage with staff and students. <br />Firearms instructor Sergeant Sypniewski conducted training for all licensed peace <br />officers in the Public Safety Center range on October 21 and 23 focusing on shooting <br />while holding the ballistic shield. <br />Deputy Director Hamdorf and Community Engagement Officer Krebsbach attended the <br />annual MN Crime Prevention Association conference on Monday and Tuesday, October <br />21 and 22. <br />Director Paetznick and Deputy Director Hamdorf attended the 126th annual conference <br />and exposition of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) in Chicago for <br />four days. It is the largest law enforcement event of the year more than 16,000 public <br />safety professionals came to learn new techniques, advance their knowledge and careers, <br />and equip their department for ongoing success. The three tenants of conference are <br />training, networking, and exhibit hall education. <br />X. OTHER ADMINISTRATIVE <br />This section will review the ongoing administrative issues and meetings during the <br />month. This includes meetings, policy issues, ordinance changes, and personnel issues. <br />And, this also includes meetings of a county wide, regional, and/or statewide basis on <br />public safety related issues. <br />Firefighters responded to 110 calls last quarter, one of the busiest three-month periods on <br />record. Already in 2019, the Fire Division has exceeded its number of responses <br />compared to all of last year.
