The visit was <br />arranged by Dr. Susan Hilal who is an assistant professor in the School of Law <br />Enforcement and Criminal Justice at Metropolitan State University and a board member <br />of USVI Public Safety Support Foundation. <br />The Mankato Department of Public Safety visited New Brighton on Friday morning, <br />October 4, to learn about our agency as they have recently transitioned their senior <br />leadership to a model similar to our department. Like New Brighton, they have now <br />aligned personnel under operations and administration rather than the traditional structure <br />of police and fire as we once did. <br />Officer Farmer attended the 2019 Sociology and Criminal Justice Career Expo at the <br />University of Saint Thomas on Tuesday, October 8. The Sociology and Criminal Justice <br />Career Expo is an opportunity for students to explore potential career, internship, and <br />volunteer opportunities with a variety of community partners including law enforcement <br />agencies, court services, correction facilities & community corrections, and several <br />nonprofit organizations. <br />Director Paetznick was invited to participate in a strategic planning session with industry <br />partners, local businesses, and community leaders at Century College on Friday morning, <br />October 18. White Bear Lake Mayor Jo Emerson and City Manager Ellen Hiniker were <br />also part of the group. <br />At its meeting on October 22, the City Council approved a 3 -year agreement for <br />municipal prosecution services with GDO Law. As our contract with longtime City <br />Prosecutor Tom Hughes comes to a close at the end of this year, please take the <br />opportunity to thank him for his 41 -years of dedicated service to the City of New <br />Brighton. We are pleased that Tom had strategically aligned with GDO Law these past <br />couple of years and look forward to continuing that relationship with their firm. <br />Public Safety Director Paetznick was invited to introduce the guest speaker at the New <br />Brighton / Mounds View Rotary Club on Tuesday, October 15. Minnesota Bureau of <br />Criminal Apprehension (BCA) Superintendent Drew Evans spoke about his agency's <br />operations as they support law enforcement and criminal justice partners statewide. <br />15 <br />
