Mr. Schlichting reviewed four crosswalk options: Option 1 — Static signage, Option 2 — Static signage <br />with push button activation of a flashing beacon, Option 3 — same as Option 2 but includes in -pavement <br />lighting, Option 4 — is called the Hawk where a push button activates the lights requiring vehicles to <br />stop. <br />Mr. Schlichting stated he would recommend Option 2 and the cost can be reimbursed by State Aid. He <br />would not recommend Option 3 or Option 4 for this crosswalk. <br />During discussion, Commissioner Eichers asked if it would be possible to install advance warning lights <br />to the east of this crosswalk. Commissioner Lamp asked if there would be plenty of light at this <br />crosswalk and if the timing of the flashing lights be adjusted based on increased crossing times by the <br />senior citizens. <br />Commissioner Eichers made a motion to accept the recommendation of Mr. Schlichting of proceeding <br />with Option 2 for this crosswalk location; Commissioner Boyd seconded. <br />6 Ayes, 0 Nays; Motion Carried <br />Updates <br />A. Public Safety/Homeland Security Update <br />Director Jacobson reported our Annual Volunteer Appreciation Dinner will be on Sunday, April 26, <br />from 5 — 7 pm at the Community Center. This will be the first year of a combined "Citywide" Volunteer <br />Appreciation Dinner combining primarily with the Parks and Recreation Department. Public Safety and <br />Parks and Recreation will work together to coordinate this event where we will expect 200+ people. <br />Director Jacobson reported Public Safety has been notified by the Office of Traffic Safety (OTC) that <br />we have been awarded a grant which will cover the costs of a full-time police officer assigned to <br />working DUI enforcement for up to four years. We are currently working through details of this grant <br />and will likely implement it in the next several weeks. This grant money is coming from NITSA to <br />reduce crashes and DWI's by focusing enforcement efforts for DWI's. <br />
