wN NEW <br />.0 BRIGHTON <br />building tomorrow today <br />MINUTES <br />New Brighton Commissioner Training <br />Regular Meeting — June 11, 2020 <br />6:30 p.m. <br />Present: Commissioner Amina Ghouse <br />Commissioner Gary Bank <br />Commissioner Pam Axberg <br />Commissioner Max Nundahl <br />Commissioner Todd Biedenfeld <br />Commissioner Eric Nelson <br />Commissioner Tim McQuillan <br />Commissioner Youssef Enanaa <br />Commissioner Julia O'Rourke <br />Commissioner Jack Winkles <br />Commissioner Karen Wagner <br />Staff in Attendance: City Clerk Terri Spangrud <br />Annual Commissioner Training <br />City Clerk Terri Spangrud welcomed the commissioners to the annual training and thanked them for <br />their willingness to serve the community. She stated on a yearly basis, staff strives to hold training <br />sessions with each of the City's Commissions. She reported she would be discussing the rules and <br />policies in place while also addressing the safeguards in place to ensure integrity in government. It was <br />noted this training is especially important for new commissioners, but also acts as a great refresher for <br />returning members. She provided the commissioners with a presentation on the following topics: <br />a) Roles and Responsibilities — Mayor, City Council and City Commissions <br />b) Norms of Behavior <br />b) Council Expectations and Conflicts of Interest <br />c) Gift Law <br />d) Data Practices Laws <br />e) Open Meeting Law and Meeting Attendance <br />f) Use of Public Resources <br />g) Communication and Social Media <br />h) IT and iPad Use <br />Discussion included: <br />• Freedom of speech concerns were addressed. <br />
