NEW <br />B1;IGHT014 _ <br />NEW BRIGHTON DEPARTMENT OF <br />r <br />PUBLIC SAFETY &RE5� <br />s„ <br />Memorandum <br />To: Public Safety Commissioners <br />From: Tony Paetznick, Director of Public Safety <br />Subject: Use of Force Policy Review <br />Date: August 6, 2020 <br />As part of the agency's commitment to the community in listening to concerns from residents <br />about local law enforcement and leading organizational responses to the issues raised in recent <br />months regarding police reform, the Public Safety Commission has been asked to review the <br />use of force policies of the New Brighton Department of Public Safety. In order to facilitate this <br />dialog for Commissioners and consistent with our department mission to educate New <br />Brighton, please find attached to this cover memo several items of reference to assist with this <br />process for better understanding police officer use of force policies. These include: <br />- Minnesota State Statutes <br />- Minnesota Board of Peace of Standards and Training Learning Objectives <br />- New Brighton Department of Public Safety policies <br />- League of Minnesota Cities Insurance Trust 2020 Legislative Update <br />Additional items for consideration can also be found on the City's LISTEN web page dedicated <br />to openness and transparency of policing in New Brighton. Commissioners are encouraged to <br />reference and review.https://www.newbrightonmn.gov/1isten as well in preparation for these <br />discussions. <br />
