NEW <br />BRIGHTON <br />building tomorrow today <br />MINUTES <br />Public Safety Commission <br />November 9, 2020 City Hall <br />Council Chambers 6:30 p.m. <br />L Call to Order <br />The meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. by Chair Hollimon. Due to the COVID-19 <br />pandemic this meeting was held virtually. <br />II. Roll Call: <br />Members Present: Commissioners Robert Boyd, Amina Ghouse, Geoff Hollimon, Tanya <br />Kessler, Stephanie Kitzhaber, Karen Wagner, and Jack Winkels. <br />Members Absent: Commissioner Ache Wakai. <br />Also Present: Director Tony Paetznick and Dave Matteson (Allina Health). <br />III. Approval of Agenda <br />Motion by Kessler, seconded by Ghouse to approve the November 9, 2020 agenda as amended <br />moving Item VI(A) Allina Health Reports and Updates after Approval of Minutes. A roll call <br />vote was taken. Motion carried 7-0. <br />IV. Approval of Minutes <br />Motion by Kessler, seconded by Ghouse to approve the October 12, 2020 minutes as presented. <br />A roll call vote was taken. Motion carried 7-0. <br />VI. Reports and Updates <br />A. Allina Health — Dave Matteson <br />Dave Mattson provided the Commission with an update on COVID-19. He explained there <br />has been a surge of cases and 911 calls. He indicated there has been an issue with bed spaces <br />in hospitals noting ICU beds were not available. He reported there has been a 25% increase <br />in 911 call volume in the north metro. He discussed how this was impacting his EMS crews. <br />He stated he has entered a surge planning process in order to prepare and plan the spike in <br />COVID-19 cases. He reviewed the EMS call volume for New Brighton in October and <br />discussed the average response times. He noted he currently has 42 EMS members on leave <br />at this time which was causing an issue with staffing levels. He stated these were challenging <br />times, but he was working through the issues. He described the cleaning process that was <br />followed by EMS staff on a daily and weekly basis. <br />
