CITY OF NEW BRIGHTON <br />Pr oclamati on <br />WHEREAS Pat Tuma joined the City New Brighton on January 21, 1985 and has been the face of New Brighton <br />Parks and Recreation’s recreation programming ever since; and, <br />WHEREAS Pat has supervised and mentored over 1,000 young people entering the workforce, many of whom have <br />gone on to become respected parks and recreation professionals; Pat has fixed dance costumes, worked the lights, <br />provided sound and cheered on many a tiny dancer at over 50 dance recitals; and, Pat has facilitated the fair play, <br />camaraderie and memories made during 35 seasons of softball and volleyball, often time personally removing <br />water from a softball field because “The game must go on!”; and, <br />WHEREAS Pat has provided an introduction to the life-long sport of tennis through free programming to over <br />1,200 children; has shared her love of water, paddling and nature with over 500 kids through canoeing and <br />kayaking camps; has watched over 6,500 children fly to new heights by growing and nurturing the New Brighton <br />Gymnastic program; and, has willingly and passionately donned costumes, tossed candy in parades, created crafts, <br />and worked countless nights and weekends in order to make hundreds of special events memorable; and, <br />WHEREAS Pat’s love of wildlife and the outdoors allowed her to save the lives of countless geese by overseeing the <br />City’s volunteer egg addling program for goose management; she has applauded the demonstration of karate <br />chops, jumps and spins of the over 3,700 kids that participated in karate and ice skating program; and, she has <br />fostered connections and social interactions, providing fun and active programming for the seniors in our <br />community for more than 35 years; and, <br />WHEREAS Pat spent 13,036 days sharing her love of parks and recreation with the residents of New Brighton, <br />making an undeniable mark on our community, and <br />WHEREAS Pat’s last day with the City of New Brighton will be on September 30, 2020, and she could write a book <br />called “Jobs I never thought I would do in Parks and Recreation – but I loved them all!” <br />NOW, THEREFORE I, VALERIE JOHNSON, Mayor of The City of New Brighton, Minnesota, in recognition of 35 <br />years of service to the citizens of New Brighton, members of the Parks and Recreation staff and all other City <br />staff, hereby present this proclamation, offer our sincerest congratulations to and do hereby proclaim: <br />Pat Tuma <br />A New Brighton City Ambassador, extend our heartfelt thanks, <br />and our fondest wishes for a happy, healthy, and extremely <br />long retirement spent enjoying the outdoors. <br />IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and <br />caused the Seal of the City of New Brighton, Minnesota <br />to be affixed this 22 day of September, 2020. <br />VALERIE JOHNSON – MAYOR
