Council Member Strub also stated there was discussion about North Park in the <br />Exchange area. Currently, there is no money for the type of park proposed. <br />B. Chair Updates <br />Chair Frischman stated she gave the Parks, Recreation and Environmental <br />Commission yearly presentation at the Council meeting on January 27th. The <br />Council appreciates all the work that is done by this Commission. The highlight of <br />2015 will be the New Brighton Exchange Parks. There was discussion about the <br />plan that PREC put together and discussion about where the funding will come <br />from. There is currently a search for funds to move forward with these parks. <br />Chair Frischman commented that we are a nine -member commission. We have <br />had a couple of commissioners leaving and we need more commissioners. We <br />have several items coming up that will need discussions and recommendations <br />to the City Council. To apply go to www.newbrightommn.gov <br />Application deadline is February 28th. Applications reviewed in early March and <br />appointments commence April 1 st. <br />C. Commission Reports on Parks <br />Driftwood: Parker. Absent. Info was e-mailed. <br />Freedom: Brunell. Absent <br />Hansen: Fields. No report. Looks good. <br />Hidden Oaks: Frischman. Good. <br />Innsbruck: Kunesh-Podein. Trails are nice and clear, but a number of lights out <br />on path. <br />Meadow Wood: Eischen. No report. <br />Silver Oaks No report. <br />Sunny Square/Veterans: CM Liaison Strub. Vets, covered with snow. Sunny <br />Square, ice is great, park looks nice. Great to have another sheet of ice in the <br />City. Most of the season Sunny Square has been packed with attendees and <br />volunteers. Chair Frischman commented that she hears comments from <br />residents that they are glad the rink is open. They comment that it is well staffed <br />and in ice is in good condition. Chair Frischman has heard all positive comments. <br />Totem Pole No report. <br />Vermont: Looked good. <br />D. Department Happenings / upcoming events <br />Director Breuer thanked Chair Frischman for an excellent job of giving the annual <br />report to Council. She goes above and beyond giving the presentation. <br />Director Breuer commented: <br />• Over 900 attended health and wellness fair. <br />• Compliments on the new renovations. <br />• Our forester has been out doing trimming. He has been very busy. <br />• Over 27 kids participating in ice skating class at Freedom Park. <br />• Great signup for our dance and gymnastics classes as well. <br />• 16 returning groups to book rooms at the Community Center. <br />• Friends of Sunny Square Park volunteers. Opened rinks Dec. 27tH <br />Freedom Park is number one park in attendance. The sledding hill also <br />draws people in. About 3,000 so far. Second most used park is Sunny <br />Square, even though the hours are less. We had 1,500 visitors.
