Chair Kunesh-Podein reminded the commissioners there is an app available called Fix311. It allows you to report things to the community you are in by texting or sending a picture. If there was a branch down, pot holes or graffiti you can report it to the municipality you are in. It is easy to use. D. Department Happenings / upcoming events Director Breuer highlighted a few of the Department Happenings. • 25 55+ adults attended a workshop on hoarding. • 25 adult softball teams playing in our fall leagues. • To receive a new boulevard tree you can order one through 9/21/15. Go online and complete a form. • Currently had 381 youth with families join us at the ice cream social at Hansen Park. Culvers and D.Q. on Old Hwy 8 have sponsored the event and give away free ice cream. • Ed -Ventures took many trips throughout the summer; Como Zoo, boat launch, Thrift Shop, St. Anthony splash pad, disc golf course and zero gravity. • Brightwood Hills completed its Jr. Program for the season. Also held a Jr. scramble (new this year), and an annual Jr. tournament. • Staff attended a Field Trip Expo event at the Minnesota History Museum. Staff learned about trip ideas for youth and seniors. • New TV's installed in the fitness area. • St. John's did two different volunteer groups of kids. We really want to thank them for their partnership. This is the 3rd year students come out with adults to help with these projects. • City has completed injections to ash trees. Three hundred twelve ash trees (18" and over) were treated this year. Upcoming Events: • Thrive Sr. Expo is on Thursday, September 17, 2015, 1-4pm. • Tuesday, September 15, 2015 Kids Around the World dismantled the playground at Totem Pole Park. They were there from 8am — and gone by 11 am. Eleven gentlemen volunteered. We learned of this program in 2012 when we worked on Hansen Playground. This company reuses and repairs the old playground equipment and sends it to a developing country. This was the 60th playground they had removed. The new playground goes in next Tuesday. If anyone is interested in volunteering there are shifts 8:30 — 11:30 or 12:30 — 3:30 pm. It is a rain or shine project. • Fall rate of $11 takes effect on September 23 at Brightwood Hills Golf Course. • Community Center will be closed for annual cleaning, Sept. 7 — 11. Chair Kunesh-Podein stated there was a conflict for the October 7th meeting. An e-mail survey was conducted. Seven responded they could move to the meeting to October 14th. A couple commissioners were not able to attend on the 14th Commissioner Fields suggested the meeting be moved to October 14, 2015. Commissioner Eischen seconded the suggestion.
