Department Happenings / upcoming events <br />• Director Breuer gave the following Did You Know Fact: <br />o People who exercise for 20 minutes once per week, are <br />significantly less likely to call in sick than non -exercisers. Did <br />You Know that the New Brighton Community Center is open <br />104 hours per week over the winter months. Stop in for a 20 <br />minute visit each week and stay healthier than your co-workers. <br />• 273 daily admissions sold at the annual NBCC Touch -a -Truck <br />Adventure Day. Also 7 different vehicles, Library Story time, Usborne <br />book sale, play in gym, face painting. <br />• Pickleball at Highview <br />• The 2016 hiking Club wrapped up their season with 32 hikers. They <br />went on 31 different hikes. <br />• Pollinator garden installed at Silver Oaks Park by a Girl Scout on <br />October 15 for her Gold Award. <br />Parks Superintendent Chris Wolla commented that he had 11 different <br />scout projects this year. Wood duck, blue bird houses, pollinator <br />gardens. The City decided to put more pollinator gardens in this year <br />so the scouts helping with these projects worked very well and the <br />gardens look very nice. <br />• 24 youth enrolled in soccer camps, 72 dance, 47 karate, 71 <br />gymnastics <br />• Holly Day Boutique wrapped up their fall craft show on Sunday, <br />October 23rd. The rental brought in nearly $4,000 for the NBCC. <br />o The boutique at Brightwood Hills opens the day after <br />Thanksgiving if you have holiday shopping to do. <br />• Lions Park Playground Focus Group began meeting. <br />• Mounds View Middle School Community Education held a Cross <br />Country meet at Brightwood Hills Golf Course on October 18. Over 100 <br />runners. <br />• Replaced the furnaces at both Freedom and Hansen Neighborhood <br />Centers. <br />• Will be doing more upgrades for the neighborhood centers, flooring, <br />cabinets, windows, etc. <br />Chair Kunesh-Podein inquired if there were items for the December agenda and <br />Director Breuer commented no. Something could come up that is time sensitive <br />but as of now there is nothing for the December agenda. <br />MOTION BY COMMISSIONER STENGLEIN, SECONDED BY COMMISSIONER <br />FIELDS, TO KEEP THE DECEMBER MEETING ON THE CALENDER AND <br />SHOULD IT BE DETERMINED LATER THAT THERE ARE NO ITEMS TO <br />DISCUSS, THEN THE MEETING WILL BE CANCELLED. MOTION CARRIED. <br />Council Member Burg commented she has been serving as an alternate member <br />for CTV. They are in need of volunteers. They also offer internships and students <br />can work in a modern studio. Students operate a camera, go in the trucks; they <br />do everything. Currently there are college scholarships, although that may go <br />
