March 23, 2021 Page 1 of 10 <br />NEW <br />BRIGHTON COUNCIL PROCEEDINGS <br />building tomorrow today THE CITY OF NEW BRIGHTON <br />Pursuant to notice thereof, a regular meeting of the New Brighton City Council was held Tuesday, <br />March 23, 2021 at 6:30 pm in the New Brighton Council Chambers. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic <br />this hybrid meeting was held both virtually and in person. <br />Present: Mayor Niedfeldt-Thomas, Councilmembers Abdulle, Allen, Axberg, and Dunsworth <br />Absent: <br />Also Present: Devin Massopust-City Manager, Sarah Sonsalla-City Attorney, Gina Smith -Interim <br />Finance Director, Ben Gozola-Assistant Director of Community Assets and <br />Development <br />Call to Order Call to Order <br />Mayor Niedfeldt-Thomas called the meeting to order at 6:30 pm. <br />Pledge of Allegiance <br />Mayor Niedfeldt-Thomas led the Council in the Pledge of Allegiance. <br />Public Comment Forum <br />Mayor Niedfeldt-Thomas opened the Public Forum for comments from the public. <br />Approval of Agenda <br />Approval of the March 23, 2021 Council Agenda <br />Motion by Councilmember Axberg, seconded by Councilmember Abdulle to approve the <br />agenda as submitted. <br />A roll call vote was taken. <br />5 Ayes, 0 Nays -Motion Carried <br />Special Order of Business <br />1. Update from New Brighton Legislative Delegation. <br />Representative Connie Bemardy thanked the Council for their time. She explained she represented New <br />Brighton in the Minnesota legislature. She indicated she served as the higher education chair along with <br />serving on the weighs and means committee and the transportation committee. She thanked the Council for <br />all they do. She discussed the budget targets for 2021 noting it was people centered in order to assist <br />Minnesotans in getting through the pandemic. He noted a bill for the whistle free zone had been heard already <br />along with a preschool bill for the Mounds View School District. She encouraged residents to reach out to her <br />with any comments or questions they may have. <br />Representative Sandra Feist thanked the Council for their time. She noted she was a resident of New Brighton <br />and represented area 41 B.
