January 22,2019 Pagel of 9 <br /> NEW <br /> WABRIGHTON COUNCIL PROCEEDINGS <br /> building tomorrow today <br /> THE CITY OF NEW BRIGHTON <br /> Pursuant to notice thereof, a regular meeting of the New Brighton City Council was held Tuesday <br /> January 22, 2019 at 6:30 pm in the New Brighton Council Chambers. <br /> Present: Mayor Johnson, Councilmembers Allen, Burg, Dunsworth, and Jacobsen <br /> Absent: <br /> Also Present: Dean Lotter-City Manager, Sarah Sonsalla-City Attorney, Scott Landsman- <br /> Development Attorney, Craig Schlichting-Community Assets and Development <br /> Director,Ben Gozola-Assistant Director of Community Assets and Development, <br /> Jennifer Fink-Parks and Recreation Director <br /> Call to Order Call to Order <br /> Mayor Johnson called the meeting to order at 6:30 pm. <br /> Pledge of Allegiance Pledee of Allegiance <br /> Mayor Johnson led the Council in the Pledge of Allegiance. <br /> Mayor Johnson took a moment to inform the public that on Saturday night, January 19th she <br /> ' was arrested for driving under the influence. She explained her blood alcohol content was .17. <br /> She stated there was no question she was reckless and made a significant error in judgement <br /> that night. She indicated she was putting other's lives in danger, as well as her own. She <br /> stated she was ready to accept the consequences of her actions and intended to take action to <br /> ensure this never happened again. She apologized to the City Councilmembers, to the City staff <br /> and to the residents of New Brighton. She stated as Mayor of New Brighton she holds herself <br /> to a high standard of conduct and she understood she failed to meet that standard on Saturday <br /> night. She explained people have a right to be disappointed in her behavior, but she hoped the <br /> City could continue to work together to achieve its goals. She commented that after this <br /> meeting adjourns, she would be available for questions from the public. She reported she <br /> would be addressing the City Council with the steps she would be taking to address this <br /> situation and her behavior. She apologized to those in attendance for the distraction this <br /> announcement has caused. She finished her comment by offering the public her sincerest <br /> apologies. <br /> Public Comment Forum Public Comment <br /> Forum <br /> Mayor Johnson opened the Public Forum for comments from the public. <br /> Rick Petrac, 775 8th Avenue NW, expressed concern with respect to the rezoning of the Korean <br /> Methodist Church property. He requested the Council delay action on this item. He <br /> recommended the Council consider an R-2 zoning versus the R-3B. He believed the proposed <br /> zoning was overkill and much too dense. He stated this area could not support 500 units. He <br /> feared how his property value would be adversely impacted if this development were to <br /> proceed. He requested the Council rethink how this corner of New Brighton develops. <br /> Becky Bates, 718 10th Avenue NW, asked why the Council was misleading the public as to the <br />
