Councilmember Jacobsen commented one option available to the City Council would be to extend the task
force.
1
Acting Mayor Burg stated this was her thinking as well. She questioned how the group felt about continuing
their work. Ms. Fynewever commented she couldn't speak for the entire group but noted the original
commitment was for six to eight months. She explained she worked to honor this commitment.
Councilmember Dunsworth reported the task force had put together a list of recommendations and she
believed it was now on the City Council to review this information and decide what actions should be taken.
She did not want to see this task force continue into perpetuity when the task at hand had been addressed.
Ms. Fynewever explained she had stepped down from the Planning Commission and would make herself
available as a resource to the City Council for the ICTF.
Acting Mayor Burg thanked Ms. Fynewever again for her efforts and explained the Council would have to
determine what to do next. Ms. Fynewever thanked all of the task force members for their hard work and
Devin Massopust for his efforts as well.
Mr. McQuillan thanked Ms. Fynewever for all of her efforts and explained she did a great job leading the task
force.
Lotter stated a way to move this forward would be to consider a joint powers agreement with another city in
order to share staff resources for a task force group.
Acting Mayor Burg stated she looked forward to having further conversations with the school districts, the
police department, and CPY. She wanted to see the task force recommendations considered further by the
Council at a future worksession meeting. She supported the City holding an art contest for local students.
Further discussion ensued regarding the timing and recruitment efforts that should be followed for a potential
inclusive community commission.
Councilmember Jacobsen recommended the right framework be input in place if a commission were pursued.
Commissioner Dunsworth agreed.
Ms. Fynewever suggested the Council take a whole year to recruit potential members for an inclusive
community commission and that they be recruited from events held throughout the coming year.
Councilmember Allen stated he did not know if it was best to wait a whole year to bring this group back
together. Ms. Fynewever reviewed the tasks the Council could be addressing over the next four to six months,
such as the art contest and a meeting with the DOJ. She anticipated the Council would have enough tasks to
address with the recommendations from the group and through the creation of a commission framework that a
year may be the right timeline.
Strategic Priorities
1 This item will be addressed by the Council at their next worksession meeting.
— Worksession adjourned at 6:02 pm
