1 Councilmember Jacobsen asked if these actions would change if it was a lifelong friend. <br /> 1 Mr. Fynewever indicated he believed it was important to follow policy. He stated there would be a trust factor <br /> involved if this was a close friend or family member. He noted he would stick to City policy and stated he <br /> would follow the rules in place. <br /> Councilmember Allen reported each commission is tasked with making recommendations to the City Council. <br /> He asked how Mr. Fynewever would respond if he disagreed with a policy or Ordinance already in place. <br /> Mr. Fynewever stated within the context of the commission they would have to act within these policies or <br /> Ordinances. He stated he may advocate for a change to occur, but noted he would follow the policies that were <br /> in place. <br /> Mayor Johnson asked what the City's biggest challenges were. <br /> Mr. Fynewever reported striking a balance to meet the needs of all residents in the community was a challenge. <br /> He stated a growth mindset that would make room for others while also understanding residents have roots <br /> here and may not accept change was another challenge. He indicated he liked change but understood it had to <br /> be managed carefully with a great deal of forethought. He understood the Council had to manage these <br /> changes carefully while also being bold and having eyes towards the future. He hoped the City was looking at <br /> ways to creatively bring new services to families through new economic development, recreation opportunities, <br /> or through the schools. He was of the opinion the City had a lot of things that were being managed very well. <br /> Councilmember Jacobsen asked if he was interested in land uses and variances; diversity and accessibility; <br /> economic programs, retention and development; the impact of recreation on the community; or the impacts of <br /> public safety. <br /> Mr. Fynewever commented he was most interested in economic programs, retention and development. He <br /> noted he was also interested in land use. He indicated he was a big user of the City's parks noting he was a <br /> runner. <br /> Mayor- Johnson discussed -the process the Council would- be--following--for-thecommittee—member <br /> appointments. She thanked Mr. Fynewever for his interest in serving and asked if he had any questions. <br /> Mr. Fynewever asked when he would hear from the City. <br /> Mayor Johnson commented additional interviews would be held in March and anticipated appointments would <br /> be made by April 1st. She explained City Clerk Spangrud would be contacting individuals regarding the <br /> appointments. <br /> City Manager Lotter discussed the process that was followed for meeting packets for iPads. <br /> Mr. Fynewever asked what the Council expected out of a commissioner. <br /> Councilmember Allen stated it was his hope commissioners served as an extension and representative of the <br /> community. He hoped commissioners used their network to get a taste of where the community was regarding <br /> ,i <br /> issues. <br />
