Councilmember Abdulle stated it may be helpful for the City to have an equity balance framework or
something similar in place.
Mayor Niedfeldt-Thomas asked if the name of the commission should be reconsidered. Ms. Tabor stated she
has not had a specific conversation about the commission's name. Massopust agreed noting he supported this
group being a DEI Commission because this would coincide with the equity statement.
Councilmember Axberg supported the group being referenced to as DEIA, which would then refer to diversity,
equity, inclusion and access.
Mayor Niedfeldt-Thomas requested the commission's scope of work include human rights.
Councilmember Abdulle recommended the Zoning Code Task Force be considering DEI matters when they are
considering code changes.
Ms. Tabor thanked the Mayor and City Councilmembers for all of their feedback. She explained progress is
not about perfection and that we have to live into what we're learning by doing it before it's complete.
Worksession adjourned at 6:11 pm
Respectfully submitted,
Terri Spangrud
City Clerk
