Existing Campus at Assistant Director of Community Assets and Development Gozola stated Global Academy is proposing 3000 5th Street NW. to place a new gymnasium addition on the SW corner of their existing building to serve the existing student body and allow all students to have daily physical education opportunities. The gym space would also include one new office, new bathrooms, and a storage area. Staff commented further on the request and noted the Planning Commission recommends approval based on the findings of fact and recommended conditions. Mayor Niedfeldt-Thomas asked if there were any concerns noted by the Planning Commission the Council should be made aware of. He noted the Planning Commission heard the concerns raised by the neighbors,but the Planning Commission believed the proposed location for the gym was appropriate. Councilmember Allen asked if the walking path from the lower level parking lot would be impacted. Helen Fiske, Global Academy representative, explained people do walk through the parking lot to 5th Street. She noted the new gym would not affect the path or where people walk.
