Councilmember Dunsworth discussed cultural placemaking and suggested this be included in the Equity <br /> Commissions tasks. <br /> Mayor Niedfeldt-Thomas questioned how the communication of the launch of this Commission should be <br /> completed by the City. She indicated there were many ideas about race at this time and she didn't want the <br /> narrative of this group lose focus. Ms. Tabor explained she was available to help the City with communicating <br /> this with the public. She recommended the City be proactive in shaping how people view this group. She <br /> believed the City Council had done a good job engaging the community throughout this process. She <br /> discussed the great work being done by Naka-Creative in getting information to the minority population. <br /> Councilmember Abdulle requested further information on consensus based decision making. Ms. Tabor stated <br /> this was very difficult to achieve at times, but can be done by a diverse group like this. She explained this <br /> group needs to be able to come to agreements about what to do together. <br /> Mayor Niedfeldt-Thomas stated the Council could add language suggesting all candidates be able to have the <br /> ability to engage in hard conversations. <br /> Councilmember Allen indicated this group would have to talk about tough things and the members would have <br /> to be able to talk about sensitive matters. He commented on how important it was for the group to understand <br /> the Equity Commission would be working on a consensus based decision making basis. <br /> Mayor Niedfeldt-Thomas thanked Ms. Tabor and staff for all of their efforts. <br /> Massopust thanked the Council for all of their feedback and encouraged the Councilmembers to begin <br /> recruiting for this Commission. <br /> Worksession adjourned at 6:56 pm <br /> Respectfully submitted, <br /> Terri Spangrud <br /> City Clerk <br />
