Agenda Section: Work Session
Report Date: 10/7/21
N Council Meeting Date: 10/12/21
BRIGHTON
building tomorrow today
REQUEST FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION
ITEM DESCRIPTION: Update from Community Partners with Youth
DEPARTMENT HEAD'S APPROVAL:
CITY MANAGER'S APPROVAL:
No comments to supplement this report IA Comments attached
Recommendation: Receive update from representatives of Community Partners with Youth (CPY) and
ask any questions. The Council will have a chance at a future meeting to discuss details and approve a
future contract.
Legislative History:
• 12/8/15—City Council approves agreement with CPY for services from 2016-2018 with annual
cost of$12,500
• 6/12/18—City Council approves amendment to CPY contract to increase service fee by
additional $55,000 for 2018
• 2/12/19—City Council work session to discuss future contract with CPY
• 2/26/19—City Council approval of three year contract for services with CPY (2019-2021) with
annual cost of$77,500
Financial Impact:
Currently, the financial impact to the City of New Brighton for the cost of services from CPY is $77,500
annually. This is budgeted for in the Administration budget and is accounted for in the General Fund.
Explanation:
CPY has had a longstanding relationship with the City of New Brighton. CPY provides after school
services and programming for youth in our community. In recent years, there have been changes
made to the structure of the contract that the City has with CPY. Until June of 2018, the City of New
Brighton paid $12,500 annually. At that time, the City increased their payment as CPY was in need of
further investment to continue operations effectively. The City then approved a three year contract
covering 2019, 2020, and 2021. The cost for services each of those years was $77,500.
The purpose of this meeting is to hear from CPY what services they provide and how they are doing as
an organization. It is also a chance for Council to ask questions while considering what a future
contract with CPY may look like. That discussion and approval will take place at a future meeting.
