She
indicated this was a beautiful neighborhood that had a lot of children. She noted this was an R-
1 neighborhood and businesses were not allowed in this area. She explained she was not trying
to deny Mr. Blomquist's right to own a business, but this business should not be operated from
a residential home. She requested the Council take this into account when consider the
proposed garage. She stated she wants to continue to live in this neighborhood, but wanted this
to be a safe neighborhood for the children in the area and for her grandchildren.
Michael Blomquist, 720 McCallum Road, explained he was doing everything he could to
resolve the situation. He apologized to his neighbors but noted he was trying to find a way to
resolve the scenario. He noted the home was only 1300 square feet and there was no storage.
He thanked Mr. Gozola for his assistance throughout this process. He commented he has
reduced the size of the garage to one story. He discussed how he has been impacted
throughout this process and reiterated that he was trying to find a solution. He noted he has an
oversized vehicle that he would like to park in the garage. He reported as of yesterday, the
business has moved out of New Brighton. He stated he was working to get the property in
order and all of the construction equipment was no longer on the site.
Raynie Sutherland, 720 McCallum Road, commented a lot of the things that were said were
true and she understood why the neighbors were upset. She reported there have been times
when false claims have been made against this property, noting they have never burned
construction material at a bonfire. She indicated she was starting to feel harassed by the
neighbors. She discussed how her family grew and noted they need more space. She
understood the property had to be cleaned up and hoped that the proposed garage would
address all of the concerns that have been raised by the neighbors.
Mr. Blomquist noted the majority of the violations have been parking in the street. He
indicated the new garage would address this issue, along with the outdoor storage concerns. He
commented there has been a snowball effect from the neighbors and noted it was not out of the
ordinary to see business vehicles in driveways in New Brighton. He requested the Council
consider his request and see that it was a solution to the concerns that have been raised.
Approval of Agenda Approval of Agenda
Approval of the October 26,2021 Council Agenda.
