November 9,2021 Page 1 of 4 <br /> IgNEW <br /> BRIGHTON COUNCIL PROCEEDINGS <br /> building tomorrow today THE CITY OF NEW BRIGHTON <br /> Pursuant to notice thereof, a regular meeting of the New Brighton City Council was held Tuesday, <br /> November 9, 2021 at 6:30 pm in the New Brighton Council Chambers. <br /> Present: Mayor Niedfeldt-Thomas, Councilmembers Abdulle,Allen, and Axberg <br /> Absent: Councilmember Dunsworth <br /> Also Present: Devin Massopust-City Manager, Sarah Sonsalla-City Attorney(attending via Zoom) <br /> Call to Order Call to Order <br /> Mayor Niedfeldt-Thomas called the meeting to order at 6:30 pm. <br /> Pledge of Allegiance Pledge of Allegiance <br /> Mayor Niedfeldt-Thomas led the Council in the Pledge of Allegiance with assistance from <br /> members of the Brooker Edmund VFW Post#724. <br /> Commander Eugene Johnson, Bob Webster, Ron Fleur, and Joe Mauricio from the VFW <br /> introduced themselves to the Council and discussed the work the VFW does to serve veterans <br /> and the community. It was noted the VFW members meet the first Tuesday of every month at <br /> the Eagles Club and new members were also encouraged to attend. <br /> Mr. Mauricio encouraged the Council to consider having a Vietnam Memorial in the City of <br /> New Brighton to honor those who served. <br /> Councilmember Axberg thanked the VFW members for attending the meeting and for sharing <br /> their experiences. She explained she worked for Union Gospel Mission and commented on a <br /> partnership her organization had with the Department of Veterans Services that was put in <br /> place to assist in ending veteran homelessness. She understood there was a lot of work that had <br /> to be done and that this work could not be done alone. <br /> Councilmember Abdulle thanked the veterans for sharing their stories. He noted he served for <br /> six years with the Red Bulls out of Arden Hills and Faribault. He explained he enjoyed how <br /> these vets were creating a community together in order to be there for each other. He thanked <br /> them also for their service to the country. <br /> Councilmember Allen thanked the vets for their continued service. He stated he appreciated <br /> their service to the country and appreciated how this group was paying it forward to their <br /> comrades. He noted his father served in the Vietnam era and his grandfather served during <br /> World War II. <br /> Mayor Niedfeldt-Thomas thanked the VFW members for all they do in the community. She <br /> thanked them for serving the Council tonight and for being a constant reminder of the good <br /> individuals in the community that care. She stated she appreciated the call to action and request <br /> that was made noting her dad served in Vietnam and her father in law served for 27 years in the <br /> army. <br /> Public Comment Forum Public Comment <br /> Forum <br /> Mayor Niedfeldt-Thomas opened the Public Forum for comments from the public. <br />
