Massopust stated a separate interview process would have to be held for the steering committee <br /> members. He noted Gozola would oversee this committee. Gozola estimated this steering committee would <br /> meet five to eight times. <br /> Mayor Niedfeldt-Thomas asked if there was a way to have the Zoning Code approval process streamlined. He <br /> explained he would tackle this project as quickly as he can, but noted work would be subject to other projects <br /> that arise. <br /> Massopust asked what the timeline was for completing this project. Gozola anticipated this project would be <br /> completed in 2022. <br /> Councilmember Abdulle discussed the prejudice that was written into other community's codes and requested <br /> staff investigate if there was any historic harm or exclusion written into New Brighton's Zoning Code. Gozola <br /> commented he would be working with City staff to facilitate the appointments to the steering committee. He <br /> further discussed the mapping prejudice project and explained Ramsey County was being reviewed at this <br /> time. <br /> Councilmember Axberg explained her daughter served on the research team for Dear Neighbor, which was the <br /> St. Paul/Ramsey County Mapping Prejudice Project. She indicated she has additional information on the <br /> process that was followed by St. Paul if any of staff or Councilmembers wanted to reach out to her. <br /> Councilmember Allen appreciated the fact the City Code was being updated along with the Zoning Code. He <br /> requested further information on how these two documents interplay. Gozola explained he was working with <br /> the City Clerk on this project and noted most of the time zoning was separate from City Code. Massopust <br /> stated he spoke with City Clerk Spangrud about the internal meetings that would be held by staff and <br /> anticipated a lot of the City Code updates would be clerical in nature. <br /> Councilmember Allen suggested a primer be sent out to the residents that were interested in serving on the <br /> Zoning Code Update Steering Committee to help in preparing them for the work that lies ahead. <br /> Mayor Niedfeldt-Thomas requested information from staff on the grants the City received to assist with this <br /> project. Gozola explained the City received a $25,000 Ramsey Corridor Revitalization Grant for Silver Lake <br /> Road. He indicated HKGi would be brought back to assist the City with the Silver Lake Road Corridor <br /> Revitalization project. He stated it would be nice to have the public involved with providing feedback on this <br /> project in 2021. He reported three public hearings would also be held on the Zoning Code Update to assist <br /> with gaining public feedback. <br /> Massopust asked for additional feedback from the Council regarding the Zoning Code Update steering <br /> committee. <br /> Councilmember Allen supported staff moving forward with the formation of the steering committee as <br /> proposed. He suggested a member of the EDC and Planning Commission a part of the steering committee, <br /> along with a member from PREC and the Public Safety Commission. <br /> Councilmember Abdulle commented it may be challenging to engage all cross sections of the community. He <br /> recommended incentives be offered to show the steering committee members that the City values their time <br /> and input. <br />
