He stated he was looking <br /> forward to the redesign of this corridor in order to improve pedestrian safety. <br /> Councilmember Abdulle supported both bicycle and pedestrian improvements along the Old Highway 8 <br /> corridor.He anticipated trails along this corridor would be well traveled by the public. He questioned what <br /> would happen if the City and County did not receive enough funding to complete the southern portion of the <br /> project and inquired who would be heading up the public engagement for this project.Community Assets and <br /> Development Director Schlichting explained this would be a County led project but noted the City could head <br /> up the public engagement. He reported if the County was not successful with the grant opportunity the City <br /> may have to wait longer to complete the project. <br /> Mayor Niedfeldt-Thomas questioned what the unintended impacts to County Road D and County Road E <br /> would be if this project was completed. Community Assets and Development Director Schlichting <br /> commented the Old Highway 8 corridor could manage 17,000 cars per day and on the north end it currently <br /> had 11,000 cars per day. He discussed the intentions at the major intersections which would be to maintain <br /> the same turn signals to allow for proper vehicle movement. <br /> Councilmember Allen inquired if there would be any other improvements to the comdor if the grant wasn't <br /> received.Community Assets and Development Director Schlichting stated the County plans for the corridor <br /> are not as extensive as the City plans.He understood the County has identified maintenance dollars for the <br /> corridor and this led the City to have a discussion with the County about a larger project.He stated if it came <br /> down to a lack of funding,he anticipated the northern portion of the corridor would be finished prior to the <br /> southern end. <br /> Councilmember Abdulle asked if the entire corridor could be restriped even if the County did not receive <br /> enough grant funding.Community Assets and Development Director Schlichting stated a repainting and <br /> micro-mill project has been discussed by the County. <br /> Motion by Councilmember Abdulle,seconded by Councilmember Allen to adopt a Resolution <br /> Offering Support for Ramsey County's Submittal of the Old Highway 8 LRIP Routes of Regional <br /> Significance Grant Application. <br /> A roll call vote was taken. <br /> 5 Ayes,0 Nays-Motion Carried <br /> Commission Liaison Reports,Announcements and Updates Commission Liaison <br /> Reports, <br /> Devin Massopust Announcements and <br /> Updates <br /> City Manager Massopust reported staff continues to work on inclusivity efforts internally. He <br /> explained a timeline and action steps would be discussed at a future worksession meeting. He <br /> noted at the last Council meeting a Resolution of Support was approved for TUV SUD's <br /> application to the Minnesota Job Creation Fund. He was happy to report TUV SUD was <br /> successful in receiving a grant which meant TUV SUD would be expanding in New Brighton. <br /> He reported the Adventures Summer Day Camp would be open for public registration on <br /> Monday, February 22, 2021. <br /> Graeme Allen <br /> Councilmember Allen thanked Assistant Director Gozola and Director Schlichting for all of <br /> their assistance with the TUV SUD grant request. He reported the Public Safety Commission <br /> met on Monday, February 8th and reviewed the 2020 traffic stop data. He explained the number <br /> of COVID cases was on the decline,which was a really good sign. <br /> Emily Dunsworth <br /> Councilmember Dunsworth reported she attended the PREC meeting on Wednesday, February <br /> 3rd where the group discussed a grant opportunity to complete Hansen Park. <br />
