Staff commented further on the request and noted the Planning Commission <br /> recommended approval of the SUP with conditions. <br /> Councilmember Abdulle thanked staff for the presentation. He stated the two access points to <br /> the property appeared to be overkill to him. He recommended the applicant assess their needs <br /> and keep only one of the entrance points. He was of the opinion the 8th Avenue SW entrance <br /> point would be a safe point access point. <br /> Councilmember Allen questioned if Clearscape had received approval from the Rice Creek <br /> Watershed District. Wade Gerten,Clearscape representative,reported he called the watershed district two <br /> or three weeks ago.He explained he would need to select a contractor for the work that would be completed <br /> onsite and this contractor would then become the main point of contact with the watershed district and with <br /> the City of New Brighton.He indicated he would be meeting with an architect tomorrow to begin working on <br /> the final plans for the project. <br /> Councilmember Allen commented the City would be redesigning Old Highway 8 over the coming years. <br /> Mr.Gerten thanked Councilmember Allen for this information. <br /> Mayor Niedfeldt-Thomas stated she was sad to see that D-Rock was closing but was happy to see another <br /> landscaping company would be moving into the community. <br /> Motion by Councilmember Allen,seconded by Councilmember Dunsworth to adopt a Resolution <br /> Approving a Special Use Permit authorizing a new landscaping business with outdoor storage at 175 <br /> Old Highway 8 SW based on the findings of fact and conditions for approval <br /> A roll call vote was taken. <br /> 5 Ayes,0 Nays-Motion Carried <br /> Commission Liaison Reports,Announcements and Updates Commission Liaison <br /> Reports, <br /> Pam Axberg Announcements and <br /> Updates <br /> Councilmember Axberg reported it was Girl Scout Cookie Go Day on Saturday. She discussed <br /> how innovative Girl Scouts were having to be with cookie sales due to the pandemic. <br /> Abdullahi Abdulle <br /> Councilmember Abdulle reported both Senator Feist and Senator Kunish were supporting the <br /> City's application for Old Highway 8. He was hopeful this project would receive much needed <br /> funding. He explained he was able to welcome several young Cub Scouts to City Hall on <br /> Saturday with Mayor Niedfeldt-Thomas. He stated he enjoyed hearing from some of the <br /> City's youngest residents about City government. <br /> City Manager Devin Massopust <br /> City Manager Massopust reported staff has received over 40 letters from residents and <br /> businesses in support of the Old Highway 8 grant application. He explained staff would be <br /> holding crime prevention meetings this week between residents, neighborhood block captains <br /> and patrol sergeants. He indicated the City Council would begin interviewing commission <br /> applicants starting Tuesday, March 2nd. He noted the Parks and Recreation Spring and <br /> Summer Guide would be hitting mailboxes shortly. <br /> Mayor Niedfeldt-Thomas <br /> Mayor Niedfeldt-Thomas reported she was a huge fan of scouting. She invited all scouts in the <br /> community to attend a City Council meeting and to consider leading the Pledge of Allegiance. <br /> She explained on Tuesday, February 23rd the League of Women Voters would be hosting an <br /> event starting at 7:00 p.m. She indicated the City was seeking student commissioners at this <br />
