housing units during the overnight hours.
Mayor Niedfeldt-Thomas thanked Director Paetznick for his presentation. Paetznick thanked the City Council
for their continued support.
Check-in on City of New Brighton Inclusivity Work
Massopust stated the City of New Brighton has been working in 2021 on inclusivity initiatives that stem from
Council goals as well as previous work done through the Inclusivity Community Task Force. The work for
2021 can be broken down generally into three different areas and tasks. These include:
• Consultant work and resulting creation of Inclusivity Action Plan
• Commission charge identification, creation, and recruitment
• Hiring of Inclusivity Coordinator
Massopust reported the purpose of this work session item is to provide an update and goals on these initiatives
to date; ensure Council is comfortable with the work and approach thus far and future plans; solicit any
Council feedback on inclusivity plans.
Councilmember Abdulle questioned what work the consultant would be doing for the City. Massopust
explained the consultant would assist the City with creating a road map for the needs assessment and
inclusivity work that would be pursued by the City. He discussed the timeframe for the hiring process for the
Inclusivity Coordinator stating it was his hope to have someone on staff by July of 2021.
Councilmember Abdulle asked how long the City would be working with a consultant. Massopust estimated
the City would be working with a consultant for four to six months.
Councilmember Abdulle stated the more time that can be spent on this topic the better because it would take
time to make systemic changes to the overall organization.
Mayor Niedfeldt-Thomas inquired how the community would be involved in the hiring process. Massopust
reported he would like to have community members involved in the hiring process. He explained he was not
sure how this looked at this time, but hoped to have several residents involved with the interview panels.
Worksession adjourned at 6:19 pm
Respectfully submitted,
,,,,k66e.:, r,a6
Terri Spangrud
City Clerk
