July 13,2021 Page 1 of 5 NE1�� BRIGHTON COUNCIL PROCEEDINGS building tomorrow today THE CITY OF NEW BRIGHTON Pursuant to notice thereof, a regular meeting of the New Brighton City Council was held Tuesday, July 13, 2021 at 6:30 pm in the New Brighton Council Chambers. Present: Mayor Niedfeldt-Thomas, Councilmembers Abdulle, Allen, Axberg and Dunsworth Absent: Also Present: Devin Massopust-City Manager, Sarah Sonsalla-City Attorney, Gina Foschi-Interim Finance Director,Jennifer Fink-Parks and Recreation Director Call to Order Call to Order Mayor Niedfeldt-Thomas called the meeting to order at 6:30 pm. Pledge of Allegiance Pledge of Allegiance Mayor Niedfeldt-Thomas led the Council in the Pledge of Allegiance. Public Comment Forum Public Comment Mayor Niedfeldt-Thomas opened the Public Forum for comments from the public. Forum Michael Yates, 1138 Pike Lake Circle, stated he has lived in his home for the past 25 years. He requested the Council consider amending City Code to allow code enforcement to levy fines on owners of rental properties where there are excessive police calls. He explained he needs help with a rental property at 1150 Pike Lake Circle. He indicated over the past six years this property has had parties with over 75 guests lasting well past midnight, live bands, trailers parked in the backyard, target practice with shot guns, fireworks set off at random times, aggressive dogs, drug sales, loud cars, and domestic violence. He understood that many of his neighbors would not speak out against this property for fear of what may happen. He urged the Council to amend the existing code and take action against this property by levying fines against the property owner due to the excessive police calls or violations of City ordinance. Mayor Niedfeldt-Thomas asked that staff respond to this request and report back to the Council at a future worksession meeting. City Manager Massopust apologized to the neighbors of this problem property and stated staff would bring this item to the Council at a future worksession meeting.
