about being a Commissioner, what were the challenges, and what would they change.
Commissioner Abdulle explained he liked the idea of having joint meetings between the Commissions and the
City Council because this would lead to them having shared power. He supported the Commission holding two
or three joint meetings in order to learn from the Commissioners. He believed these meetings would have more
value than the Council carrying over their voices as a liaison. He indicated the facetime between the
Commissioners and the City Council would have value. Massopust thanked Councilmember Abdulle for his
feedback.
Councilmember Abdulle stated he would like the Council to hold more discussions on affordable housing,
even if these discussions were held in 2022. He suggested the Council review the recent census data when
holding this discussion.
Councilmember Allen commented he would be happy to further discuss affordable housing. He noted he
would also like to discuss single family rental regulations. He indicated he would also like to learn more about
the City's inspection process in order to improve overall safety.
Mayor Niedfeldt-Thomas discussed the model Roseville has in place to assist with funding affordable housing.
She supported the Council having a conversation around this topic in order to develop strategies for the
community. She suggested the Council consider holding a Town Hall style meeting this fall in order to
connect with the community. She commented on the benefits of the City having a scorecard in place and
suggested the Council discuss key metrics at a future worksession meeting.
Councilmember Abdulle explained he supported the idea of the City having a resource fair at the Community
Center. He noted he supported the City having a scorecard in place as well, especially as the City begins its
DEI venture. He indicated he would like to learn more about the dashboard points on the website along with
traffic data from the Public Safety Department.
Further discussion ensued regarding the traffic stop data that was recently discussed by the Public Safety
Commission.
Councilmember Dunsworth reported this gets back to her point, that it would be valuable to know more about
what was going on within each Commission so that if there are thoughts or opinions, they can be shared. She
believed the City could improve the communication cycle between the Council and its Commissions in order
to keep things moving forward.
Mayor Niedfeldt-Thomas stated it would help for the Council to better understand the work plans of each
Commission. In addition, the weekly updates should include the agenda items that will be discussed for each
Commission.
Councilmember Dunsworth supported these recommendations.
Councilmember Axberg commented on the value of the information from the census information. She wanted
to see the City thinking long term and considering how it was positioning itself to meet the needs of the
changing community.
Councilmember Allen suggested City initiated advocacy issues be considered at a future meeting.
Mayor Niedfeldt-Thomas recommended this be addressed by the Council in December.
