PROCLAMATION <br />STATING THAT THE CITY OF NEW BRIGHTON HEREBY DECLARES <br />ARBOR DAY AS May 6th, 2022 AND ARBOR MONTH AS MAY 2022 IN <br />THE CITY OF NEW BRIGHTON. <br />WHEREAS the City of New Brighton has been recognized by the National Arbor Day <br />Foundation as a Tree City USA for 40 consecutive years, and <br />WHEREAS trees in our City beautify our surroundings, shade our parks and residences, <br />increase property values and enhance the economic vitality of business areas, <br />and <br />WHEREAS Minnesota is at risk to lose over one billion ash trees due to emerald ash borer, <br />potentially increasing C02 emissions and flooding, and <br />WHEREAS a healthy tree canopy decreases temperatures along streets providing cooler <br />spaces in the summertime for recreation and commerce, and <br />WHEREAS approximately three-quarters of Minnesotans get their drinking water from the <br />forested parts of the state; and <br />WHEREAS trees reduce stormwater runoff and act as a filter, preventing sediments and <br />pollutants from washing into waterways, and <br />WHEREAS trees capture carbon from the atmosphere and store it in their trunks, roots, and <br />soil, and <br />NOW, THEREFORE BE IT PROCLAIMED that I, Kari Niedfeldt-Thomas, Mayor of the City of <br />New Brighton, Minnesota do hereby proclaim May 6th, 2022 as Arbor Day in the City of New <br />Brighton. <br />BE IT FURTHER PROCLAIMED that the month of May be "Arbor Month" and that public- <br />spirited and fore-sighted citizens be called upon to plant trees now for the enjoyment and use of <br />future generations. <br />IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto <br />Set my hand and caused the Seal of the City <br />Of New Brighton, Minnesota to be affixed <br />This 10th day of May, 2022 <br />Kari Niedfeldt-Thomas - Mayor
