REQUEST FOR COMMISISON CONSIDERATION

ITEM DESCRIPTION: What’s the Appeal Campaign
DEPARTMENT HEAD’S APPROVAL:
CITY MANAGER’S APPROVAL:
No comments to supplement this report ___ Comments attached ___

Recommendations:  Review the provided links and come prepared with ideas on how EDC
members can develop a “what’s the appeal” campaign on behalf of the
City.
 This will be a commissioner driven effort. Staff can assist with action
items moving forward, but like business outreach, overall success of the
effort will fall to commissioners.
 As requested by the City’s various commissions in May, this is an avenue
through which EDC members will have more action and influence on a
Commission initiative.

History:  At this year’s visioning session for the 2023/24 workplan, coming up with
ways to market the City of New Brighton beyond local and regional spheres
was brought up as an area the commission should explore. This will be the
commission’s first foray into the topic.

Financial Impact:  Attracting and retaining national and international businesses to the
community can provide long-term financial benefits for everyone in the
City.

Summary:  Links outlining Minnesota strengths, regional strengths, and ways to
approach City promotion can be viewed in the following links:
a) Build What Matters in Minnesota
b) Minnesota: A Robust & Diverse Economy
c) DEED Exporting & International Trade Webpage
d) Explore Minnesota (Tourism Website)
Agenda Section: VI
Item: 1
Report Date: 8/30/23
Commission Meeting Date: 9/6/23
