Planning Report <br />Site Plan Review: Hanson Park East <br /> <br /> <br />To: Planning Commission <br />From: Ben Gozola, Assistant Director DCAD <br />Meeting Date: 2-21-23 <br />Applicants: City of New Brighton <br />Main Contact: Jennifer Fink, Director of Parks & Recreation <br />Location: Hanson Park East (12th Ave NW & 5th St NW) <br />Zoning: R-1 <br /> <br /> <br />Introductory Information <br />Project: The City of New Brighton is seeking authorization to rehabilitate facilities on the <br />eastern side of Hanson Park in accordance with the recently approved 2040 Park & <br />Trail System Master Plan. <br /> <br />History: <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> Park established in 1968. <br /> Maintenance of park facilities has occurred as needed since the park’s <br />establishment, but this would be this area’s first major upgrade in ≈30+ years. <br /> 2018 – RCWD completed a comprehensive water management project in <br />Hansen Park which cut the number of sports fields down from 4 to 2. The <br />Community was informed that upgrades and enhancements would be made to <br />the remaining fields in the future. <br /> November 13, 2018 – Council authorized the Parks and Recreation Department <br />to enter into an agreement with WSB and Associates Inc. to provide services <br />for a Comprehensive Park System Plan <br /> February 6, 2019 – Parks, Recreation and Environmental Commission (PREC) <br />voted to recommend the Parks Comprehensive Parks System Plan Steering <br />Committee to Council for appointment. <br /> February 13, 2019 – City Council appoints Parks Comprehensive Parks System <br />Plan Steering Committee. <br /> July 2019 – City Council adopts the City’s new 2040 Comprehensive Plan <br />guiding overall City development for the next thirty years. Plan includes a <br />specific recommendation to undertake a separate and specific comp planning <br />process for the City’s park system.
