Except as provided for under joint parking and shopping centers, if a structure contains two or 360
more types of use, the area of each use shall be calculated separately in determining the total 361
number of off-street parking stalls required. 362
363
(2) Handicapped Accessible Parking. For all uses where automobile parking spaces are provided except 364
single and two family residences, accessible parking facilities for persons with disabilities must be 365
provided for accessible parking, and shall be identified for such use in accordance with all applicable state 366
regulations. 367
all uses where automobile parking spaces are provided except single and two family residences, at least 368
one space per fifty spaces or any fraction thereof shall be provided for the use of the handicapped, and 369
shall be identified for such use in accordance with Sections 29-38 through 29-30. Such parking shall be 370
located as close as practicable to a building entrance providing adequate ingress for the handicapped into 371
the main lobby or corridor of the building. A continuous, permanently designated pathway at grade shall 372
be provided which links the parking spaces to the building entrance. Such pathway shall be made of 373
concrete, asphalt paving, or similar permanent material with a slip-resistant surface, at least 48 inches 374
wide and with a slope not to exceed one vertical to twenty horizontal. See Minnesota State Building 375
Code, Chapter 1240.1900, for information regarding handicapped parking symbols and signage. 376
377
A. The number and type of accessible parking spaces to be provided shall be based upon the US 378
Access Board Guide to the ADA Accessibility Standards, Chapter 5. Accessible parking spaces 379
are required for each parking facility on a site, such as lots and garages. Requirements apply 380
equally to public and employee or restricted parking. On sites with multiple parking facilities, the 381
minimum number of accessible spaces must be calculated separately for each parking facility 382
instead of on the combined total of parking spaces provided on the site. 383
B. At least one of every 6 accessible spaces, or fraction of 6, in each parking facility must be 384
sized to accommodate vans. 385
C. Such parking shall be located as close as practicable to a building entrance providing improved 386
accessible ingress into the main lobby or corridor of the building. A continuous, permanently 387
designated pathway at grade shall be provided which links the parking spaces to the building 388
entrance. Such pathway shall be made of concrete, asphalt paving, or similar permanent material 389
with a slip-resistant surface, at least 48 inches wide and with a slope not to exceed one vertical to 390
twenty horizontal. 391
D. No parking area drainage patterns shall flow towards or be placed within accessible parking 392
areas. 393
E. See Minnesota State Building Code, Chapter 1240.1900, for information regarding accessible 394
parking symbols and signage. 395
396
397
398
399
(3) Number of Spaces Required. 400
401
LAND USE NUMBER OF SPACES UNIT OF MEASURE
A. Single Family
2.0 Dwelling unit
Commented [HD29]: From Traffic Engineer Expert
Commented [JF30]: Somewhere in here we could give a
20% deduct for halls, bathroom, common spaces or do exact
calculation whichever is less.

Also- we could note for mixed use building, the calculation
can be determined by peak use and give a credit of some
sort- example could less for a restaurant if its sharing a
parking lot with an office building.
