<br /> <br />7 <br /> <br />Student Commissioner Dauer explained with more people there would be more crime, but <br />there would also be more prosperity. She hoped this prosperity would bring more families and <br />children into the community. <br />Commissioner Frischman stated she has been involved in real estate for the past 27 years and <br />she indicated there were no active properties in New Brighton at this time. She reported the <br />City has a supply challenge. She commented the Planning Commission meets once a month to <br />discuss issues and she appreciated community feedback. She discussed the next steps for this <br />Ordinance noting the final decision would be made by the City Council on February 28. <br />A member of the audience asked who would be driving redevelopment in the mixed use areas. <br />Assistant Director of Community Assets and Development Gozola explained any future or <br />potential redevelopment would be driven by the private property owners. <br />Commissioner McQuillan explained the action before the Commission was to amend the zoning <br />for these properties and reiterated that there were no requests before the City at this time. <br />Motion by Commissioner McQuillan, seconded by Commissioner Enanaa, to recommend the <br />City Council approve Ordinance 896, an Ordinance amending the New Brighton Zoning <br />Ordinance by rezoning properties within the City of New Brighton from their existing zoning <br />designations (R-1, R-3A, R-3B, B-1, B-2, B-3, I-1, I-2 and MX) to one of three new mixed use <br />districts (MUN, MUR, or MUE) as guided by the Comprehensive Plan. <br />A roll call vote was taken. Approved 7-0. <br /> <br />VI. Business Items <br />(A) Site Plan Review: Hansen Park (East) Improvements Review. <br />Assistant Director of Community Assets and Development Gozola reported the City of New <br />Brighton is seeking authorization to rehabilitate facilities at Hansen Park in accordance with the <br />recently approved 2040 Park & Trail System Master Plan. Staff discussed the history of the <br />park, reviewed the proposed improvement plans in further detail with the Commission and <br />recommended approval of the site plan based on the findings of fact and subject to the <br />following conditions: <br />1. Parks Department staff shall continue to review any updates as they occur. Major changes <br />(i.e. significant changes to design, setback impacts, etc.) will be brought back through the <br />process while minor changes will be reviewed and approved administratively. <br />2. Public safety shall continue to review updates as they occur, and may direct plan updates <br />to deal with safety concerns as plans are finalized. <br />3. Building materials shall be in line with those anticipated and required by code.
