The Capital Asset Policy <br />does not govern the financing or maintenance of capital assets. <br />It is strictly used for accounting and financial reporting purposes. <br />Recommendation(s): Approve the resolution amending the Capital Asset Policy. <br />Applicable Deadlines: n/a <br />Legislative History: The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) <br />recommends all local governments formally adopt financial <br />policies regarding the accounting of capital assets. A capital asset <br />accounting policy includes capitalization thresholds, estimated <br />useful lives, internal controls and other information formalizing <br />the asset accounting practices of the organization. <br /> The City’s Capital Asset Policy was first adopted in 2004 and last <br />amended in 2011. It is the policy of the City to review and amend <br />the policy as needed. <br /> The amendments do not include any substantive changes to the <br />current policy or practices of the City. The amendments <br />identified provide clarity of policy statements, updated <br />definitions, and better alignment with current City practices and <br />State statutes.
