9/07/2016 – Sense of Place Wrap up and establishment of guiding principles to address the desires of <br />the commission on this front: <br />− Strong Public Safety presence to ensure secure, safe neighborhoods, getting people out of <br />their homes and interacting throughout all areas of the community. <br />− Creation of gathering places or destinations, whether in plaza-type environments, at a <br />local restaurant or bar, fraternal organizations, or in outdoor dining spaces. <br />− Ensuring a connection with the schools, access to personal enrichment programs, and <br />local sport team identification. <br />− Creating traffic calm environments that are walkable and bikeable with connections to <br />high quality public spaces including parks, public art, and City entrance monument <br />signage. <br />− Creating better physical connections to local business through high quality public <br />infrastructure such as roads, trails, landscaping, lighting, etc. <br />− Provide local support and visibility for reoccurring public events, like Stockyard Days, a <br />farmer’s market, and sporting events and providing ways for local business to be <br />engaged in these events. <br />Along with the above principals Old Highway 8 corridor and the Korean church site were targeted as <br />areas of future opportunity. <br />11/02/2016 – Sense of Place recommendations finalized and sent to Council <br />2019 <br />10/02/2019 - Monuments at Entry Points/Monument Design Recommendations <br />2020 <br />02/09/2020 - Status Update on Gateways and Monument Signs <br />11/04/2020 - Twin Cities Gateway Visitors Bureau Presentation <br />2021 <br />10/06/2021 - Guest Speaker Kersten Elverum, Hopkins Director of Planning and Development - <br />Public Art Initiatives <br />11/03/2021 - Event Tourism Discussion with Director of Parks and Recreation Jennifer Fink <br />2022 <br />01/05/2022 - Public Art and Event Tourism Follow-Ups <br />02/02/2022 - Taking Advantage of Local Events <br />07/06/2022 - Coordinated Placemaking through Monument and Park Signage <br />09/07/2022 - Ramsey County Critical Corridors Grants <br />12/07/2022 - Ice Castles 2023 Partnership Discussion, Ramsey County Critical Corridor Grant: Bringing a <br />Sense of Place to New Brighton
