STAFF Memorandum <br />Decennial Joint Meeting of the City Council and the Economic <br />Development Commission <br /> <br /> <br />Subject: Meeting Guide <br />From: Ben Gozola, Assistant Director DCAD <br />Meeting Date: 2-21-23 <br /> <br />INTRODUCTION <br />The EDC can only play a vital role in Council’s decision-making process when its focal points are aligned with the <br />priorities of elected officials. Approximately once every eight to ten years (or as changing conditions dictate), staff <br />will strive to bring both bodies together to re-evaluate the Commission’s focal points and encourage a dialog that <br />ensures the EDC efforts will provide maximum benefit to Council as it works to implement their vision for the <br />Community. <br />To provide structure for the proposed discussion, staff offers the following roadmap for the upcoming meeting (which <br />may be amended or changed as Council and the Commission sees fit): <br />Item # Presenter Topic <br />1 Ben Gozola Review “why” behind the joint meeting <br />2 Ben Gozola Examine City Code “duties and responsibilities” assigned to the EDC <br />3 Carl Gillies Why this matters: examining impact of EDC focal points since 2015 <br />4 EDC Members & Staff EDC Areas of Interest & Expertise <br /> <br />• Jacquie Sauter .............
