Name:
Date:
Page:

H:\NEWB\0T6130130\1_Corres\A_Meetings\Project overview_memo_06122023.docx

IV. Discussion
As we get this project kicked off, we would like to hear from the Council and Planning Commission about
your thoughts about parking regulations and observations in the City and answer the following
questions:
• Is the Council and Planning Commission supportive of the items to be reviewed and
potential incorporation of parking trends listed above?
• Does the Council and Planning Commission feel commercial areas are over or under parked?
Multifamily areas over or under parked? Industrial uses over or under parked?
• What does the Council and Planning Commission think about having no minimum standards
in certain uses or districts? What about a maximum parking requirement instead of a
minimum?
• What is the sentiment about allowing more unrestricted use of the public street for parking
as a means to reduce off-street parking lots?
• What is the community sentiment about semi-truck parking, and should this update address
those issues?
• Is the City willing to require redevelopment sites to adhere to new standards at a certain
threshold?
• Is there a name we should start calling this project for advertising purposes with the public?

V. Next Steps
• We are meeting with the business community to get similar input as we will being our work.
• Meeting with Equity Commission being scheduled.
• Getting input from Economic Development Commission.
• We will start to put concepts and ordinance changes to paper and have a meeting in July
with PC to talk concepts and potential changes.
• We will be back to Council in a similar joint session when we have details of the proposed
ordinance to share.
