<br />New Brighton Energy Action Plan 27 <br />Strategy 3: Communicate electrification opportunities to businesses <br />Businesses can participate in upgrading to electric appliances in several ways. Depending on what <br />appliances or equipment is replaced, it could save on utility costs, interior air quality and <br />maintenance. <br /> <br />Desired Outcomes: <br />Adoption of a policy standard for new construction, participation from businesses across a broad <br />spectrum of business types, and a geothermal/ground-source heat pump pilot. <br /> <br />Actions: <br />3a <br />Create a sustainable building policy that requires <br />City-funded construction to meet electrification <br />standards <br />The Department of Community Assets <br />and Development, City Council, and <br />finance department will lead this effort <br />3b <br />Explore and implement a City-led building <br />electrification pilot project (i.e., net-zero building <br />and/or geothermal) <br />The City Parks and Recreation <br />Department will work with City Council <br />and design firms on this effort as park <br />buildings are upcoming <br />3c <br />Conduct a geothermal geological assessment of the <br />city of New Brighton or in a specified area where a <br />geothermal or ground-source heat pump project <br />might be piloted (ideally in an area or building <br />benefitting under resourced households) <br />The City and Partners in Energy will lead <br />this effort alongside housing <br />departments, development and finance <br />departments <br />Timeline: Long-term (12–18 Months) <br /> <br />Other considerations/partnerships/funding opportunities for this strategy: <br />Minnesota Geothermal Heat Pump Association, federal grants and incentives, and Xcel Energy. <br />
