<br />Agenda Section: Consent <br />Item: 5 <br />Report Date: 11.1.2023 <br />Meeting Date: 11.14.2023 <br /> <br />REQUEST FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION – EXECUTIVE SUMMARY <br />ITEM DESCRIPTION: Authorize Staff to Enter into an Agreement with Reach for Resources <br />for Inclusion Services in Parks and Recreation Programs. <br />DEPARTMENT HEAD’S APPROVAL: _________ CITY MANAGER’S APPROVAL: __________ <br /> <br /> Action Requested: ☐ Public Hearing ☒ Motion ☐ Discussion ☐ Informational <br /> Form of Action: ☐ Resolution ☐ Ordinance ☒ Contract/Agrmnt ☐ N/A ☐ Other <br /> Votes Needed: ☒ 3 votes ☐ 4 votes ☐ 5 votes ☐ N/A <br /> <br />Summary Statement: An agreement with Reach for Resources provides personalized <br />inclusion services so that those in our community with disabilities or <br />special needs can fully and actively participate in general Parks and <br />Recreation programs alongside their peers. <br /> As a member of the Reach for Resources Consortium, New Brighton <br />staff have the opportunity for unlimited communication with Reach <br />for Resources’ adaptive recreation professionals, licensed social <br />workers, psychologists, and special education staff for referrals, <br />consultations, and advice. When Parks and Recreation staff receive a <br />request from the public for inclusion services, Reach for Resources will <br />work directly with the participant and family to determine the level of <br />support the participant may need in order to enjoy their experience. If <br />necessary, Reach for Resources will provide on-site services for <br />participants who may need one-on-one assistance. <br /> In 2022, approximately 50 hours of services were used. So far in 2023, <br />the City has seen 300 hours of services provided. The majority of them <br />have been in the playground program. <br /> There are no additional costs to participants for on-site support. This <br />agreement assists our department in meeting ADA regulations for <br />inclusion services. <br /> The total cost of this contract is $6,951.26, which includes 118 hours of <br />inclusion support.
