February 13,2024 Page 3 of 3 <br /> Abdullahi Abdulle <br /> Councilmember Abdulle reported the EDC meet on Wednesday, February 7 at 7:30 p.m. He <br /> explained this group discussed the work being done in the community by Open to Business and <br /> nMCCD. He encouraged small business owners in the community to look into the valuable <br /> services and resources that are provided by these two organizations. He indicated the group <br /> was also looking at how to update the City's website noting the group would like to create a <br /> landing page that can be reviewed by perspective businesses. He stated the group was also <br /> interested in engaging with the schools. <br /> Mayor Niedfeldt-Thomas <br /> Mayor Niedfeldt-Thomas reported she attended a meeting with the school district to discuss <br /> ways the City can collaborate with the school district. She indicated the main topic of <br /> discussion was how to better collaborate when it comes to space and programming. She stated <br /> last month the Equity Commission focused its attention on data driven decisions. She <br /> commented on how the GIS team was working to provide transparency across the City with <br /> information on demographics, housing, public safety, economic development, transportation, <br /> climate and parks and recreation. She explained the City has participated in the Center for <br /> Economic Inclusion's racial equity dividends index, along with a number of other cities. She <br /> commented on the recommendations that were made to the City when it came to hiring <br /> practices. She stated the Equity Commission would meet next on Thursday, February 15. She <br /> thanked the City team for bringing the leadership team and Council together for a strategic <br /> planning retreat. She commented on the recent parks community meetings that were held for <br /> Hansen and Silver Oaks Parks. She indicated she attended a mayor meeting with <br /> Representative McCollum last Monday where she learned about what was happening at the <br /> 11 federal level. She noted the City has a set of legislative priorities for 2024 that she would be <br /> lobbying for. She reported the Council would meet next on Tuesday, February 27 for a <br /> worksession meeting. She stated the City Council Business meeting would not be held on <br /> February 27 in order to allow for community Caucuses. In addition, she noted the Council <br /> worksession meeting for March 5 would not be held due to the Presidential Primary.
