<br />CITY COUNCIL <br />CITY OF NEW BRIGHTON <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 05-055 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION TO ACCEPT SPECIAL APPROPRIATION FROM THE STATE OF <br />MINNESOTA FOR RAILROAD WY IMPROVEMENT PROJECT <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of New Brighton (the "City") is a municipal corporation and <br />subdivision of the State of Minnesota organized and operating under Minnesota law; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of New Brighton is the official governing <br />body of the City; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, several railroad operators route coal train traffic through the city of New <br />Brighton; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, said coal train traffic results in temporary road closures at 1st Street NW, <br />8th <br />Street NW and 10th Street NW; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, these temporary road closures create disruptions within the community; <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City believes that the best solution is to construct a railroad wye <br />connection <br />(the "Wye") between the Minnesota Commercial Railway and the Canadian Pacific <br />mainlines; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, as part of the Wye project the City also plans to work with the Minnesota <br />Commercial Railway (the "MCR") to construct a team track (the "Team Track") to <br />accommodate MCR's rail needs; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City has requested a special appropriation from the State of Minnesota <br />to assist with the design and construction of the Wye and Team Track projects. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of New <br />Brighton, Minnesota that the City hereby accepts a special appropriation of $1,000,000 <br />from the State of Minnesota for the Wye and Team Track projects, with gratitude, on <br />behalf of the City. <br />
